A wonderful piece of oversized sculpture of a popular school supply. Bright and great for a photo. Four enormous colored pencils stand at the corner of California Street and Hoyt Avenue in downtown Everett. Created by Mukilteo-based Dillon Works and installed in 2013, the 10-foot-tall sculpture weighs 505 pounds and is made from formed stainless steel finished with automotive paint. Look closely at the fictional “Cal Hoyt Pencil Co.” branding: the number 2802 refers to the sculpture’s street address. The fake pencil company name was created to avoid using a real trademark. Publicly visible from the sidewalk.
