SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention
Andrea’s Take

I seriously underestimated this museum. I expected a collection of electrical artifacts; I didn’t expect so many demonstrations, interactive pieces and things coming to life around us. Give yourself time to explore, and if the MegaZapper is running, don’t skip it. A world-class collection dedicated to electricity and the inventions it made possible, tucked into downtown Bellingham. SPARK is filled with historic electrical artifacts alongside early radios, televisions, gramophones, music equipment, a theremin, interactive displays and changing exhibits. This isn’t entirely a look-but-don’t-touch museum. There are things to view, things to experience and things to touch, and staff regularly demonstrate pieces from the collection and show visitors how they work. For an additional $5, the roughly hour-long MegaZapper Electrical Show explores electricity through live demonstrations before culminating with an enormous Tesla coil and volunteers inside a Faraday cage. Admission required. Check current museum hours, admission prices and MegaZapper showtimes before visiting.
